AMC Endorses Sex Education Website

Jakarta 1/7/2010 (Kominfo-Newsroom) AMC (Aids Management Commission) endorses the launching a sex education website aimed at managing AIDS among Indonesians, particularly the younger generation. This was stated by Dr Nafsiah Mboi, AMC executive secretary, at the launching of the website here Wednesday (30/6).

He said www.sexxie.tv is an effective website to curb the further spread of AIDS, notably among teenagers and young adults.

He said the website is good for parents and teachers. The more we know, the easier we can prevent the deadly disease, he said. Website is teamed by medical professionals and is therefore an effective health education media because they can give the right and correct answers to any questions regarding AIDS. Target of the website are those aged 10 years and above. At the moment, however, the website is intended more for
university students because of their ability to better absorb knowledge.

Health Ministry data say there were 20,564 AIDS patients between 1987 and March 2010. One of two is aged between 15 and 19. A survey by Indonesian Health and Demography says that 12 percent of marriages of teeners betweeb the ages of 15 and 19 took place because of premarital pregnancies.

Website is launched also because of the increase in the number of pregnancies among teens, abortions, contagious sexual ailments, sexual harassment, rapes and AIDS.

Youth could ask questions via a program called chat presented by medical butlers. Also, doctors and health experts could exchange views and debate in a number of interactive education forums, according to Dr Wei,
one of the sponsorts of the website. The website is also connected with facebook amd twitter.
